Run Number: 1563
2 runs - Away Hash in White Desert and Local Hash in Cairo Area. Those going on the away run should already have all the details. This note will focus on the local run. Note - this is an excellent run to get used to the idea of bringing your own beer to the Hash, as "Hash Beer" will be away in the White Desert.
Date: 05 March 2010
Time: 2pm start at the run site, 1pm pick-up at the Ace club.
Hare: David Rider, Liz + Robert Mulliss, + Machiel?
OnOn: TBA
RV: Location – Lower Wadi Digla.
Directions – enter the protectorate after paying 5 le per person and per car (3 le for Egyptians), drive for approx 4.75km, and look for CH3 signs. You can’t get lost in Wadi Digla. However if you find that your car has got wedged in a deep, narrow, gorge, it means that you have gone about 6km too far and need to turn round and look for CH3 signs on the way back. If you still can't find the run site, you have either got the time or date wrong, or are in the wrong Wadi.

This week we have another "themed" run. This time it is all about socks. "What kind of socks?" I hear you ask. Well, any kind of socks you like - long socks, short socks, soft sophisticated sensuous socks, rough tough outdoor socks, weird kinky mismatched socks, there's no need to restrict yourself to two - three, four or more will do. The only stipulation is that we must all be able to see the socks, so there is simply no point in having socks that’s too short to notice. I'm sure that has given you plenty of ideas. Prizes will be awarded to the male and female who have the best socks on the hash, so let your imagination go wild, as they say "the sky is the limit" - although in this case it is probably more correct to say "the thigh is the limit".
In addition to the prizes for the best socks, you will also have the chance to win some fine raffle prizes this week. See Note from The Raffler:
"To help thirsty Hashers prepare for the holidays this weeks (6 Nov) Hash Raffle will be especially complete with fine wines and sippin whisky/eys.
Break open your piggy bank and come on down! You gotta be in it to win it as they say."
Date: 05 November 2010
Time: 2pm - 1pm ACE club for a ride, or to follow someone. START TIME MOVED TO 2PM (1PM ACE CLUB) FOR WINTER SEASON
Hare: Carolyn, Kim, Rebecca, Mark
OnOn: Shanghai Family Restaurant, Maadi, Road 231. It's halfway between Green Mill and Subway...on the left, if you're walking from Subway towards Green Mill.
RV: From Ace club, drive as if going to Wadi Digla, but turn off to the Right on to the Autostrada (the big road that goes over the flyover that you normally drive under). Set your tripmeter to zero. Head towards Helwan, carefully negotiating speed humps and crazy traffic. You will pass through a cutting as you drive uphill at approx 13km. Shortly afterwards (13.9km) turn left. This involves making a U turn and driving back on yourself for 50m before turning off the main road. Then follow markers (boxes and bottles with arrows) to the runsite.

Hot Chicks/Bikini Hash
I hope you are all looking forward to this Hash. It may be the middle of November, and the days may be getting shorter and cooler. It may also be Friday the 13th - a superstitious date. But on the Hash, we are good at confounding fate and the elements. This is going to be a hot hash, regardless of the weather, and it is going to be a lucky hash.
It is going to be hot, because it is being set by hot girls (Amanda, Jaimee, Nirvana, Megan and Stefi), who will be wearing hot, skimpy outfits (possibly bikinis). It is important that these brave ladies do not feel conspicuous or out of place (after all, you know how shy they are), so all hashers are encouraged to dress sexily - skimpy outfits, lycra, fish-net stockings left over from last week etc. Of course, this applies to guys as well as girls - we can swing in all directions on the hash. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. In fact, even if you haven't got it, flaunt it. This is the hash after all - everyone on the hash is beautiful and we love and appreciate everyone.
It is going to be lucky because, well, wouldn't you consider yourself to be lucky when you are surrounded by beautiful, sexily dressed, friendly, slightly inebriated people? If that is not enough, the hash will be having another big raffle, with many excellent prizes including wine, spirits and chocolate plus a bonus surprise prize, so bring along plenty of spending money.
Another good reason to bring plenty of money - we will have special shirts on sale for 50 LE. Remember, hash shirts are collectors items. It is never possible to have too many, so don't miss this opportunity.
Note - If the weather cools down after the run, you have a choice - either find someone to cuddle up to - or pull on a fleece. You have been warned...
Time: 2pm Start, 1pm Ace club pick-up.
Hare: Jamie, Nirvana, Megan, Stephanie, Amanda, (assisted by Ken and Adam - it's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it)

Santa Lucia Run.
Bringing light into a dark world, “Santa Lucia” is a symbol of hope for the people of Sweden. Dressed in white with a crown of candles in her hair, Saint Lucia also serves as a beautiful visual reminder of the start of the holiday and Advent season each year. (Santa Lucia Day is traditionally celebrated on December 13.) "The significance of Santa Lucia," "is that, according to legend, she appeared to some starving people of Scandinavia on what was then the darkest and shortest day of the year, December 17, and brought them light, nourishment, and hope."
For more than a thousand years, the Swedish saint of light has been celebrated by Swedes and, more recently, internationally. In Sweden, on the morning of Santa Lucia Day, the eldest daughter in each family dresses in a white robe with red sash, and wears a wreath of lingo berry branches and candles on her head. She carries coffee and a breakfast of sun-coloured saffron buns and gingerbread cookies to her parents in their room. Her sisters and brothers follow; the girls carry candles.
"Santa Lucia is a young, female, early saint of the Church". "She is a symbol of hope and light and a much needed model for today."
Another Scandinavian custom was for children, on the eve of December 13, to write the word "Lussi" on doors, fences, and walls. In ancient times the purpose of this practice was to announce to the demons of winter that their reign was broken on Saint Lucy's Day, that the sun would return again and the days become longer. "Lucy fires" used to be burned in many parts of northern Europe on December 13. Into the bonfires people would throw incense, and while the flames rose, trumpets and flutes were playing to celebrate the changing of the sun’s course.

Want to reduce your chances of getting prostate cancer and/or breast cancer? Well then, come along to the Hash on Friday. It has been scientifically proven that drinking beer (an essential ingredient in hashing) reduces your risk of getting these cancers. Don’t believe me? Then check out:-
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20091209/tuk-beer-may-cut-prostate-cancer-risk-dba1618.htm
Of course, you could drink beer without coming on the hash, but then you’d miss out on all the good exercise, fresh air and companionship that hashing brings and you’d probably get a heart attack (or a myocardial infraction as they say for short in the medical world). So as you can see, hashing truly is a holistic lifestyle option – not just a way of having a good time on a Friday afternoon.

Hopefully, after the problems in getting to the RV that we have had over the past 2 weeks, this weeks’ run will go smoothly, without any hitches. Two weeks ago we had the mysterious “woman-with-dogs” who is suspected of stealing the hash markers (boxes and bottles) leading to the run-site. Then last week we had unwelcome and unwarranted attention from the security forces – firstly prohibiting the hares attempts to leave the Ain Sukhna Rd at the Visitor Center “turn-off”, and then delaying the hares access to the picknick site whilst permission was sought from higher up the chain of command. It was a close-run thing, requiring delicate negotiations. Hopefully my wife will be returned soon.
Anyway, to avoid any further complications this week, the run will be held in Lower Wadi Digla, near (but not necessarily at) the waterfall site

Time: 2pm Start, 1pm Ace club pick-up
Hare: Gary Puryer, Tom, Pierre, Francesca.

Directions – First, gather at the Ace club and make sure that all hashers have seats in cars. Then drive into Wadi Digla after paying at the gate. Do not look for waterfalls – they dried up several thousand years ago. Instead, look for CH3 signs, and/or groups of hashers milling around.
