Run 1405 The Pears In Spring Hash 23/2/7

We were in the Protectorate of all places for Hash 1405, the last Hash of February, this time back at the Barbecue Site on the right. The Hash pool team had a break last Wednesday night, as the team they were due to play at the BCA Mohandiseen were depleted and asked to have the fixture deferred. It was all a mystery this week as no-one knew who the Hares were. It was a question of following the trails and guessing at the end who was responsible. Anyway, we started a wee bit late at 2.15pm and the runners, including your scribe, crossed the wadi floor and eventually picked up the trail which involved a steep scramble up the northern cliffs, with Flusher blazing the trail. We then headed inland, northwards, on this warm, hazy afternoon, pausing for the first chekk on an attractive ridge. From there, we cruised eastwards along the ridge, which eventually swerved northwards towards the New Ain Sukhna Road. Anyway, the energetic FRBs discovered that the anonymous Hares had done a crafty back Czech. So they soon returned and we tumbled down the ridge and then down the stony, treacherous cliffs, back onto the wadi floor. Those naughty Hares, setting such a Harey trail!

After crossing the valley, it was a really tough ascent of those southern cliffs, with the second chekk on top. From there, we ventured westwards along the clifftops to the not-too-distant third checc, followed by a sneaky falsie. Once we found the real route, it wasn’t far to the RV, descending by the ‘amphitheatre’. The run took about an hour; the walk 10 minutes longer.

And now for something very important: Frau Hund presents Herr Hund with a 20-Hare mug and a 100-run Tea shirt. Meanwhile, Upside Ben Doone presents him with a splendid 50^th birthday Tea shirt and he (Herr Hund) gets to drink out of the aluminium Pisser. And then all those Hashers who’ve done 20 or more Hareings are invited to share a brewski with our Auxiliary RA: to whit, Cream Offski, Rude Yard, Castrati, Useless (gets the alumin Pisser) and Mrs Dog. Over to Herr Hund himself, who invites certain Hashers to step forward for a birthday hug: Cheeky Little Brat With Dirty Red Cheeks, Rudelski, Greased Palm, Alex and Anne, and the Siberian Sexbomb. We give them a blast of the ‘4Skin Song’. They are followed by Dougal (whose birthday falls later this month), a young lad and Bad Lay, who indulges in refreshments from the bell. Marie-Leese, Patricia, Underdeveloped, Jesse, Sarah, Darren’s girlfriend and Gabriella Sabatini are then invited up by Mister Dog to hug him, to the tune of ‘Lift up My Tea Shirt’. There are now more hugs offered to Darren and his girlfriend, Psycho Tits, Rudie, an Argentinian doll and Bad Lay. We give them a verse or two of ‘My Bonnie’.

Meanwhile, little Samantha, the youngest of our mystery Hares, needs naming, and her daddy christens her Pink Princess to popular appeal. Finally, Tassie Tornado, Comes In Threes, Cookie, another lady, Uriah Heap lookalike Canadian Chris and Bad Lay get stuck into down-downs, as we finish with ‘We Go Hashing’ to the tune of ‘Clementine’. So that was that. As for the On-On, we all piled round to Mr and Mrs Dog’s place in Road 17 for Mr Dog’s birthday party. The Thai food, eaten in front of a homely log fire and washed down by Cointreau, gin and tonic, red wine and Coke and Saqqara shandies, was delicious. Your scribe very appropriately enjoyed the doggy bag they gave him for lunch the following day. The paper plates at the party were wonderful. There was one sort with a teddy bear on, wearing a mustard-yellow cardigan and holding a flower, while the other sort depicted a ripe, juicy pear. On the rim of this second sort of plate was written: ‘Pears in Spring’.
