The Trail We were in Upper Wadi Digla, parking by the Information Centre that overlooks the wadi, for Hash 1407. We entered the desert on the right, having travelled east through the rock cutting along the New Ain Sukhna Road. Where we cut off the highway meant we avoided the tollbooth. The Information Centre would make a great place for an On-On, if only it were staffed and up and running. After all, there¹s a nice big room there overlooking the valley with tables and chairs in. Your scribe was back, having missed Hash 1406, in order to indulge in a wee bit of paperwork. In the meantime, the Hash pool team are going from strength to strength, winning one and drawing two of their past three fixtures. It was a nice warm afternoon, as we runners headed off east along the cliff tops. Rudie did a number of short/long divides during the run to allow slow coaches like your scribe to keep up. There were two such splits before the first cheque, hidden in a culvert, as we crossed the valley floor and headed into the sun. From checc one, there were two falsies, one of them heading back towards the wadi. Flusher picked up the real trail, as we pressed southwest over flattish terrain, with your scribe taking advantage of another short break, organised by the thoughtful Rude Yard. After the second and last Czech, we veered southeast, after eventually negotiating three FTs. We were now running across more flattish land, directly towards the cement factories and a back chekk. We then turned northwards back towards the wadi. In fact it was On-In, clambering up the cliff to the Info Centre. The run took 1 hour 10 mins; the walk 1.5 hours. The Circular Shout Up Hugh J. Nuss kicks the Circle into action, punishing the Hares, before the newcomers and Ed (a PE teacher from Bournemouth who was here last week) and Bottleneck (gets the aluminium Pisser and thanks to him and Uncle Seal for helping out on the beer front last week). The newcomers went something like this: Christina from Vietnam, studying the oud (lute); Eduardo from Spain; Gareth from Bradford; Paul, aged 35 and from Rotterdam, who works at the Suez Canal Container Terminal, along with Miraga his wife and their baby; another Rudie; Hoda, a French teacher from Melbourne; and another Martina (studying at the AUC). Meanwhile, Good To The Last Drop and Hugeness announce the Easter away Hash in el-Bahriya, before we are reminded that Lindsay (a teacher like Trish at the Hayat School and a yoga specialist), Patricia (an English teacher from West London who¹s been in Egypt for 30 months and enjoys diving) and Jessie (aged 22, born in Trinidad but from Miami and working in the AUC¹s Desert Development Centre, she¹s also an accomplished gymnast and entertains us with a wonderful handstand) all need naming. Over to Mister Dog, who presents Bottleneck with a 75-run Tea shirt (he also gets the aluminium Pisser), while Hot Air gets called up for doing 699 runs and Useless for setting 98 trails. Besides, you scribe didn¹t sign in, so he gets to drink out of the bell and also little Dafydd¹s new shoe (what a treat!). We then distribute sherbets to Castrati and Rudie (married 26 years this week) and newlyweds Mystic Meg and Underdeveloped. After that, all those Hashers celebrating their birthdays at about this time are invited to partake of sherbet: Castrati again, Pussy Wig (he¹d already gone home), Upside Ben Doone, Penelope (she¹d already skedaddled), Spoilt Little Brat With Dirty Red Cheeks and Karim. We then welcome back Wife Of Brian, who¹s kept company by D. Floured, Claire and Martina the student. Herr Hund entertains them with a quiz about the USA. We learnt that Alaska is bigger than Texas; Mexicans form the largest ethnic group in Texas; and California is the most heavily populated state in the United States. Now how¹s that for a bundle of Useless information! Anyway, we give them all a verse or two of the ŒTitty Song¹, after which the gorgeous Lorissa indulges in a wee bit of raffle extracting: The Sheriff Of Nottingham wins the Jim Beam; Blowback a case of Saqqara; and Athletic Supporter the champers! Meanwhile, the equally gorgeous Shauna pulls Ken Davies (opts for the second case of Saqqara); Lou (gets tempted by the choccies); and Megan (succumbs to more choccies)! In the midst of all that, another of KD¹s tickets was drawn and he gallantly demanded a redraw, for which he gets the Pisser. We give them a blast of ŒWe Go Hashing¹, before The Dude picks up the reins again, inviting John P to donate the smelly galabiya, to which he¹d added Should¹ve Been Blonde¹s sunglasses, to a worthy cause. And that cause is Rude Yard. And now Bad B is furnished with refreshments, as Little Dina has been in possession of the Magic Lantern for over a year now. Spoilt Little Brat With Red Nuts also gets a brewsksi for being in possession of the Toilet Seat and Bottleneck who once had the Old Smelly Galabiya. Meanwhile, we are informed that Hala (which Hala?) has the Chain of Pain. By the way, can readers confirm that Marie-Leese has the New Smelly Galabiya? In the meantime, Jessie drinks a down-down on her head, Upside Ben Doone for us, supported by Danish Tom, Bobby Williams and Spoilt Little Brat. Back to Herr Hund, who invites everyone who¹s been recently promoted to step forward: Karim (now a senior commercial manager), D. Floured, Tassie Tornado, Should¹ve Been Blonde, Useless (promoted to a new fridge), Checks Me Out, The Mystical One and Underdeveloped. And now the namings of three beautiful Hashettes. Lindsay will forever and always on this and every other Hash be known as Likes It Hot (although many present were in favour of Dirty Rubber); Patricia receives the Hash handled Suck My Snorkel (inspired by Upside Ben Doone); and Jessie gets Spreads Easily (although many present were in favour of Tastes Like Butter). There was now more raffle extracting, with Sherif selecting Bottleneck (goes for the cool Chiang Mai 2006 Tea shirt); a dude (a case of Coca Cola); Athletic Supporter (gallantly demands a redraw); the same dude (gallantly demands a redraw); and Grubby Little Red Cheeks (scoops the eclairs)!
