We were in the Protectorate for Hash 1416, at the first RV on the right. Again it was at the earlier time of 3pm, as many folk were heading straight to the ball — and in Good In Bed’s case straight from the ball to Cairo International Airport to fly off to India in the early hours of Saturday morning! Your scribe was with the runners, as we headed east down the wadi and then back the way we came having hit a back trail, on a warm, muggy afternoon punctuated by sporadic shower bursts. We returned to near the cars and, amid lots of confusion, found a running cheque and headed east again. We soon encountered a long/short trail split. Your scribe took the short one up the southern cliffs, while the tougher runners went further down the valley on the long trail, then up the cliffs past the amphitheatre (where the second RV on the right is). As we trotted south across the plain, there was a little more rain. Then it was up another, smaller range of hills to the first cheque on top, not far from the signals tower. We enjoyed a cool view of Maadi and el-Moqattam.

After negotiating a falsie, we carried on towards the bigger cliffs, before hitting another back Czech. From there, we headed back towards the clifftops and then down onto the wadi floor near the amphitheatre. We then jogged back to the RV, along the valley. The run took 1 hour 10 mins for slowcoaches like your scribe. We had a splendid outburst of rain for a few minutes before the Circle kicked off.

Hugh J. Nuss punishes the Hares, after which there was a whole rash of visitors: Monica, Lynne, Ooley from Sweden, Wolf, Aheem, Charlotte (not a visitor but she’d invited a lot of the visitors today — a German contingent who turned up in a bus), Franny from DC, Stacey, Pam (from Blackpool and now living in Sydney), Pam’s Bob (also living in Sydney and originally from London), Neals (an architect from Stuttgart) and Schweppes, a German TV journalist. And now over to Gorillas, who calls up Joerg (who didn’t stop running at the first checc); Smack Ass; Bootstrap; Cookie; D. Floured; the gallant Squashed Balls, who helped Bootstrap along the trail; and Ben Doone (gets the Pisser). Frau Hund leads us in ‘We’re up in the Morning’. Next, Nabil is requested to partake of a beverage for wearing a pink, non-Hash Tea shirt, along with Swedish Ooley, also sporting a pink shirt, while the beautiful blonde Franny draws a raffle winner and it’s Joerg who plunders a case of Heineken! Then another doll called Anne extracts The Italian Blob, who zeroes in on the whisky! Meanwhile, the gorgeous Hannah pulls a ticket with Cheeky Little Brat’s name on. He opts for the second case of Heineken but then the Missus steps in and orders him to take the pink bath towel instead!

They are followed by Bad Lay who gets stuck into the Pisser as he’s a bit of a one for the German ladies and Cheeky Little Brat and Smack Ass (and when two Hares drink), who wears the trousers. Then Hala draws another raffle winner and it’s Hot Air who zeroes in on the second cash of Heineken, while Colin got something (I’m not sure what) and The Italian Blob gets a d-d too. We sing them ‘We go Hashing’. Visitors Stacey (an epidemiology graduate), Errin and Hannah (studying for a Masters) receive sherbets again, while Tassie Teaser who’s leaving us is furnished with a brewski, along with The Mystical One, who dons an awesome 75-run Tea shirt. Over to Mrs Dog, who calls up today’s non-signers-inners, to whit Stacey, Hannah, Monica Harmonica and the erring Errin. Meanwhile, back to Gorillas, with Frau Hund, Hot Air and the beautiful ladies Hareing Hash 1417 offering to manufacture salads for said Hash. The Hares for said Hash — Hala, Psycho Tits, the Siberian Sexbomb, Charlotte, Bad Lay and Useless — indulge in refreshments, before we round off with more Saqqara for this week’s Hares.

We rounded off with ‘Schwing Lowe’, before many people headed to the Desert Dinner Dance, while three Hashers made it to the Red Onion, to enjoy a delicious, and a bundle of others popped in to say hello. Congratulations to Rude Yard, who today picked up a mouthwatering case of Saqqara for completely a sideways-knocking 60 Hareings! On-On!
