We were at Should’ve Been Blonde’s place on the left off the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road for Hash 1427, just before the Abu Rawash Pyramids which are on tother side of road. Your scribe was with the runners on this baking-hot afternoon, as we headed towards the Pyramids several miles distant, eventually ending up at a Roman cistern, built a couple of months er millennia ago, where we had a joint Czech with the walkers. We continued northwards across vacant, sandy lots and then down a side road towards the main road. We crossed the side road going north and struggled up a sandy stony hill in the wake of the walkers, with the second cheque, a joint one again, on top. After that, the runners were lulled into a false sense of security by a false trail, while Ken Davies pointed out a splendid lump of petrified wood, the kind of thing tourists love — I’d be petrified if someone tried to ship me out as a souvenir!

Your scribe even did a bit of FRBing today, as it was so hot and he managed to take one or two sneaky shortcuts. Then Crocodile Dundee powered his way to the front of the pack again — this week he was wearing black-and-gold Melbourne Rugby League Club socks. We were nearly misled by the footprints in the sand of a dwarf, before we crossed a stretch of desert used by aliens when they land from other planets. Then we came back again and encountered a running Circle. We strayed slightly to the north again before returning and crossing the side road again, through a gate, between some of the vacant lots and under the pylons. Soon we were back at the swimming pool in Mona’s compound cooling off after a very hot run, which took an hour but seemed a lot longer. The walkers were back a little before us.

Hugh J. Nuss leaps into action, punishing the Hares, as we drank champagne, in order to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Gispert, RIP, who founded the Hash. It was Tott’s, a refreshingly dry champers. After them, it’s the newcomers — Dingleberry (he of the tight underpants), Kevin from Michigan, Werner Higgins from Austria, Shannon, Clint from Kentucky, Jessie and Said. Sherif, a kitesurfer, and Brian receive refreshments next. Over to Mister Dog, with his dislocated arm still in a sling, who calls up Julie (who gave him first aid when he was injured three weeks ago), Cathy (not Frau Hund), Doctor Paul (an edismologist who leaves us on Sunday to take up a new teaching post in Verona) and Useless who knows what an edismologist is (only because Dr Paul told him five minutes before the Circle!). And now Frau Hund takes the helm, punishing the day’s non-signers-inners — Brian, Crocodile Dundee and Useless, not to mention Bad B, who wrote ‘Here’ (or was it ‘Hare’?) against his name on the list.

This was followed by refreshments for our hostess, Should’ve Been Blonde, as well as her attractive daughter and those folk who dodged the trails and stayed by the pool today: Squashed Palm, Greased Balls, Athletic Supporter and The Dude. We give them a blast of ‘Dough the Stuff’, before Hugh J. Nuss takes control again, giving one Hasher from every different nationality present a brewski. Back to Herr Hund, who distributes two extremely indispensable awards: Should’ve Been Blonde picks up a fabulous 10-run mug, while The Dude scoops a fab 50-Hare silver chalice. And now it’s time to name Ken Davies, the most senior Cairo Hasher in terms of having been on the Hash here the longest time ago. In 1982, KD, who’s been all over the world with BP, came on a Hash or two in Egypt’s capital and now he’s back again. We have a Squashed Balls and a Greased Palm on the Hash, but not a Squashed Palm or a Greased Palm. This, combined with the fact that Barbie’s habeeb was called Ken inspires Tit For Tat to come up with the splendid Handle Barbie’s Greased Balls, to unanimous approval. The ale continues to flow for Dave and Penny (recovering from a dose of Cairo belly), Kentucky Clint and Richard (who both apparently have the clap — give them a round of applause), Dingleberry and Useless (who also claims to be suffering from a touch of the collywobbles). Finally, we award a sherbet to Jackie, as she and Bernd are going to have the next Hash baby. So that was that and we rounded off the evening with a splendid BBQ. On-On!!

And finally: Congratulations to San Francisco Treat and Green Card, former CH3 members now based in America. Green Card has just given birth to Martin, their third son after Mark and Michael.
