We were at the Information Centre for Hash 1430 and it was pleasantly warm. Your scribe was one of the walking Hares as we, like the runners, headed east round the back of the Centre then paused for the first cheqq, before heading down into the valley and across and up for the second Czech on the far side. We pressed ever southwards, with the intrepid runners even further south of us. We then turned westwards up a hill to the fourth Czech before heading for home, back across the valley then up the big hill below the Info Centre near the waterfall. The runners caught us at the foot of the cliff, finishing their trail in 1 hour 10 mins, while the walk took 1 hour 15 mins, with the dynamic Squashed Balls, anxious to get back to the RV for a beer, piling on the pace.

Hugh J. Nuss leaps into action, punishing the Hares for good trails to the dulcet tones of ‘Why were they Born?’ Then it was the day’s visitors: Jim from Inverness; Peter from Perth in Western Australia; Jovana who’s going to give birth to a little Hasher soon; Ursula and her two children, Alysia and Cedric; Tanya from Washington; Inge; David; and the delicious, drop-dead gorgeous Deborah from the Sudan. Over to Mister Dog, who invites four British men of worthy yeoman stock to swallow brewskis, namely Greasy Runner, Barbie’s Erect Balls, Uncle Seal and Bad B. This musical quartet sing us ‘Four and Twenty Virgins’, after which those who are still lost in the desert are suitably punished: Croco Dundee, Barbie’s Spiced Balls (signed in Alison), Hot Lips, Jim, Marley Knob, Elaine and Peter. We give them a spirited rendition of ‘It’s a Hash House Sin’. Next, to the same tune, we welcome back Rudie, Castrati, Hot Lips, Alison, the Belgian Consul, Mike and wife, Useless (!), Doc Bassem and Elaine. Inge is hauled out next for her cool leg tan, along with Rudie and Nabil for wearing identical plastic summer shoes, albeit different colours (green and blue respectively) and with holes in, totally unsuitable as your scribe can’t drink out of them. Pussy Wig joins them for strong running.

Next, Jovana and Mystic Meg, both expecting Hash babies, and their husbands, Hibiscus Flower and Underdeveloped, enjoy refreshments to the tune of ‘My Baby Lies over the Ocean’, before Easy Wife of Bam-Bam gets little Alysia to do some raffle-extracting: Bam-Bam himself muscles in on a case of Saqqara; Hibiscus Flower snaffles the Bushmills; Doc Bassem confiscates a case of blackcurrant pop; Useless (!) swoops on the Jim Beam; Spoilt Little Bratwurst corners the candy; the new Rebecca sweeps up a case of orange soda pop; Uncle John (some big boxes of matches); Cedric’s mama (the calculator); and Castrati (the smart travelling clock). And now it’s time to christen the new Rebecca, who’s working here for an NGO before returning to her homeland New Zealand, from where she intends to travel to Australia to do a PhD. We unanimously decide to call her B-a-a-a-a. Finally, Dirty Little Bratwurst announces a tasty on-on at Ithaki and Hash 1431 a the Bunkers’ Site at 4pm. On-On!!!
