We were in the Protectorate again for Hash 1446, parking this time at the broken-down building, a little way in on the left. Your scribe was with the runners, as we headed eastwards down the wadi with the walkers behind us. We then headed halfway up the southern cliffs and came back on ourselves in the foothills. It was scrambly old stuff, before we ascended all the way back near the cars to the first cheque, on top, above the larger of the two knackered structures. We then headed east along the cliffs after negotiating some falsties. It was a lovely afternoon, although admittedly fairly windy. Soon we were veering in a southeasterly direction towards some small hills, crossing lentils en route. We had the second chekk halfway there, with three trails to choose from, the correct trail leading southeast again. We rounded one of the little hills, before turning back towards Maadi, running into the sun. The third Czech was above the cars, with the fit runners doing a further loop westwards, while the others (namely your scribe) headed straight down the cliffs to the RV, being swiftly caught by those fit FRBs. The run took 1 hour 10 mins, the walk 1 hour 40 mins. The walking Hare tagged onto the run and the walkers got a wee bit lost.

Mister Dog moves into action, punishing the Hares, with your scribe getting a refreshing Pisser for shortcutting the run. We then welcome a whole bunch of visitors: Dina (a Palestinian-American teacher); Alex (from the Philippines); John (Toby's dad) and Martin (Toby's uncle); the delicious Aliya from Tunis; Stewart (from Centurion); Useless (qualifies as an honorary visitor for emitting a humungous belch after demolishing that huge Pisser); and Bia, a teacher from California who's looking for a job. Meanwhile, the spiritual tone of our august club was raised by the presence of two meditational yoga teachers: Brother Krishna from Canada and Brother Zechariah from Syria. But Frau Hund brings us down from the heights again by inviting the inevitable non-signers-inners to get a brewski down their neck: Allan, Bro, Zechariah, Gunter and Kim (not Rude Yard). Curiously Useless and Bad Lay, who now has an excellent bash at RAing, had signed in.

Hot Stuff (aka Bad Lay) invites the Egyptians among us to partake of the cup that cheers, namely Squashed Balls, Pet Shop Boy (who forgot the Chain of Pain today), Cracker, someone whose name I can't read and Stinky. We give them a blast of 'We're up in the Morning', before calling up Mr and Mrs Dog for those naughty pups, along with bad boy Patrick, for whom we sing 'We're the Hash House Harriers'. Now it's time for everyone wearing red hats today to be suitably lubricated. They include Pet Shop Boy, Charlotte, Stew, Spreads Easily, Useless and the delectable Alija. They are followed by the French-speaking contingent - the dynamic Alija, Squashed Balls, Useless (who support Marseilles) and another dude. We sing them 'I Belong to Cairo'.

Still more refreshments are distributed to folk who've been travelling recently. We sing 'Dough a Beer' to these itchy-footed athletes: Bad Lay (gets the Pisser), Stinky (who got engaged and married on the Hash in 2000), Herr Hund (back from South Africa), Spoilt Little Bratwurst (the Pisser too), Melts In Her, Squashed Bs and Toby's dad and uncle. And finally, Allan, Useless and Ted, who kindly offered to set Hash 1447, were given down-downs.
