The Trail

Your scribe can't remember the last time the Hash fell on 29/2, but today Hash 1458, at the Information Centre, aka the Visitors' Centre, in Upper Wadi Digla, did. Numbers were up and the day was pleasantly warm, while we also had a bundle of visitors. Your scribe was one of the walking Hares and we took the walkers down into the wadi for the first chekk, after the runners had crossed us up on top and then headed east along the northern cliffs. We walkers tstrolled across the wadi floor (check out all that rubbish, dudes and dudettes) and up the southern cliffs. We trudged further south, before turning west and stopping for the Second Cheque - cool view of the Info Centre. From there, we came back down towards the wadi floor for the third cheqq - an even cooler view of the Info Centre. It was on in after that, strolling back across the wadi and up that chunky northern cliff, with the stairs carved into it. The walk took 1 hour, the run 10 mins longer.

The Circular Shout Up

Naughty Little Bratwurst launches the Circle, punishing the New York newcomers (they sing us the '5 to 1 Countdown Song'), followed by the British newcomers, followed by all the other newcomers. We give the latter a blast of the 'Pyramids Song'. The list of newcomers go something like this: Phil (a gas and oil specialist from Scotland); a Dutch Embassy official, his wife and their son; Andy, visiting from the United States; Mohamed and the delightful Merhan; Leonardo from Italy; Stephanie from Leics; Bruce; another Phil from Italy; Anne Boozer, an allergies specialist, Steve and another dude, all from NY; Jewel from Pittsburgh, a Scottish lass and Sarah, all teachers; Walker from NY too; Ruth from Scotland; Steve from Maryland; English Paul who works at the Airport; Sun from South Korea; and Laura visiting from the United States. After them it's the Hares, with Barbie's Squashed Balls and Bad Lay getting Pissers for high RV visibility from the cheques. They sing the Welsh national anthem, as this is the Saint David's Day Hash, with the excellent voices being supplemented by the fine tones of Mister Dog.

Over to Athletic Supporter, who invites the usual suspects (and a few unusual ones) to partake of brewskis for not signing in: Chris, Euro Tunnel, Squashed Balls, Transvestite, Pol Pot, Alex, Stephanie Roach, Easy Rider, Useless (!), Doctor Bassem, red-headed Steve and more. Meanwhile, more Pissers are presented to Bad Lady and Barbie’s Squashed Balls, who then takes the helm, inviting Cock Tamer, Spreads Easily and another doll to spread the Welsh flag for us. It’s easily done. Tit For Tat then gets a d-d for her sterling work on the beer front, being joined by Useless and everyone sings us the ‘Dumb Blonde Song’. The music continues with the ‘Song with no Tune’ for run shortcutters Spoilt Little Battenburg, Michael and other dudes, after which yet more music — ‘We go Hashing’ — for the succulent Nadine and Laura. They are followed by the equally succulent Cock Tamer (who recently tamed Mount Sinai and some heavy-duty hangovers) and Euro Tunnel, who hurt her ankle today. We give them a blast of ‘We’re the Hash House Harriers’. Useless gets more refreshments for getting to bed early last Saturday, while Put In Out also gets called up as that dodgy Russian election of President Medvedev means she will need a new Hash name (Dmitri Puts It In?) next week.

And now Athletic Supporter moves into action, awarding Hot Lips, Spreads Easily and Marie-Leese fabulous 25-run badges, while Mary-Fran herself also partakes of the golden Sakkara, as we sing them ‘Pretty Hashites’. Bad Lay then snags a super 10-Hare mug and Athletic Supporter a terrific 100-run Tea shirt. And now we wish Annie Boozer, Here’s My Package and another cove happy birthdays, after which Easy Rider is given recognition for his saucy Tea shirt, being joined by Charlotte, who is also German. The Charlotte Islands are in British Columbia — Bad Lay is furnished with refreshment for providing us with that Useless piece of information. We then invite Gohar, who kindly sponsored the CH3 2008 Tea shirt to have a drink, along with Lotfi and Abu Tareq (Easy Rider), after whom Spoilt Little Brat and Triathlon Man, who shared the Chain of Pain again on the run today, present that noble article to Bad Lay. We give them a blast of the ‘4 Skin Song’. And the final round of down-downs goes to Spreads Easily, Athletic Supporter and Cock Tamer, who give us details about Hash 1459, which will raise money to help homeless Americans. So that was that and we headed back to Maadi, with about ten of us hitting the Rugby Club for lots of tasty refreshments. On-On!!
