We were inside in the Protectorate for Hash 1473 at 5pm, parking near the new tree. Your scribe, recovering from his car accident, missed last week's farewell Hash for Mister and Mrs Dog, but he was present today. We had a number of visitors this week, including Nora; Inflation from Edinburgh (a very appropriate name given the constant price hikes in Egypt); Giovanni who works for a Swiss company; Orlav, who works for a Swedish food company; another Finn called Kayo, his wife and their son, Thomas; Mohamed (who works for the same company as Orlav); and Matt, an AUC postgraduate from New Orleans. Your scribe was with the runners as we headed a little way down the wadi then up the southern cliffs, to the first cheque on top, which was warm and surprisingly windy. We then walked further east along the cliff tops to the second cheque before scrambling back down onto the wadi floor and returning to the cars. The runners caught us on the way in. Both trails took about 50 minutes. When we got back, we got stuck into hot dogs, watermelons with vodka (!) and beer, with all the profits going to help Mr Glenn King, a 45-year-old man from New Zealand who was seriously injured in April in a motorbike accident in Cairo. The proceeds from the auction and raffle (read on) also went to this very worthy cause.

Spoilt Little Bratwurst kicks the Circle into gear, punishing the Hares, after this week's non-signers-inners are also provided with beverages - Michael Ball-Dozer, Doc Sameh and Useless. As this is also the Annual Red Dress Hash, five of the best-dressed dudes are invited to come forward, so we can choose the winner. They are Rudy, Alain, Matt, Orlav and Doc Livingstone, who gets it on the Cheerometer. Doc Livingstone is presented with a bottle of something tasty, after which the best-dressed dudettes are asked to step up: Athletic Supporter, Doing It Backwards, Rudyette, Christine and Catherine. And yes, the stunning Athletic Supporter gets it on the cheer, winning a voucher for a meal at the new Crave restaurant in Digla. We give them a blast of the 'Tea-Shirt Song', after which Hugh J. Nuss holds a brief auction to get the ball rolling for Glenn. The first item to be auctioned, 12 bottles of Guinness, is successfully bid for by Tom, who pays LE1,250 for them; then Alain pays LE1,000 for a digital camera. Thank-you for their generosity and that of everyone who bought lots of raffle tickets and contributed in other ways.

Before the raffle starts, Glen's sister, Jo, her husband and Glenn's daughter, Bianca, thank CH3 for helping them at this difficult time. But there's great good news in store for us - Glenn is coming out of his coma and was able to actually speak on the phone to one of his friends this morning.
