We were in Wadi Digla Protectorate again for Hash 1484, parking just a few yards from the recently planted tree, in the shade on the left. The clocks had changed, but the Hash was still at 5pm, which meant it was cooler. In fact, we didn't get going till 5.15pm, as there was a big crowd and lots of visitors. We runners headed up the north cliffs at the same spot as last week and then along the cliff tops eastwards. We soon hit the first Czech, before continuing east a little further, then back down into the wadi, using the same tricky cliff as last week. On the valley floor, we had a second cheqq. From their, like last week, your scribe and Doctor Livingstone took a sneaky shortcut home, passing last week's lentils, back up the wadi, while the real men ran all the way up the south cliffs, only to encounter a falsie. Back down they tumbled, then headed up the same cliffs again, only a little further east. They then ran back east along the top and, after another Czech, came back down into the wadi near the first RV on the right as you drive into the wadi. The run took 55 mins, the walk 40 mins. We had some splendid refreshments - home-made chunny (consisting of lime, sugar and redistilled gin), whose preparation requires a magic touch. It was confected for us by Spoilt Little Brat and served from a plastic barrel-like drinks dispenser with a tap on.

Spoilt Little Brat kicks the Circle into gear, punishing a generous crop of newcomers this week - Steve from Canada; Jennifer (John's wife - yes he's bravely come back on the Hash, despite his injuries of a fortnight ago); Khaled, a senior official in EgyptAir; Roy from Holland; Peter from Vermont who teaches at Narmer American College (where Phyzz Dick once taught); Karl from Texas (Hash name Pumpkin); his wife, Julie (Hash name Twitchie); Francesca (from the UK, who teaches at the British School in Rehab); Dee (a teacher from London); Shing from Japan; and Lorraine (a Mancurian teacher). They are followed by Rod, Khaled again and Wing Nut, before the Hares are suitably punished. Incidentally we used the chunny for the down-downs this week and thanks to Should've Been Blonde for helping with the pouring. And now over to Melon F***er, who calls up this week's non-signers-inners: Hot Air (already gone), Barbie's Squashed Balls, Useless (!), Pete Reynolds, Steve Spitbaski (?!) and Ian Taylor.

Meanwhile, Can't Make Her Come now takes the helm, inviting Julie and Luc who recently got married to enjoy a marital sherbet (and many congratulations!). Rod sings them a suitable song, after which Three Dogs F***ing is invited to partake of the golden Sakkara, as her shorts became extraordinarily sweaty on the run. They are followed by Bobby and Tony (mooned the GM this week - mind you he mooned them too last week). And now Olaf, who's been spotted with new shoes, nice rugged walking boot types, is called upon to drink out of them. But he doesn't want Useless to drink out of the other one (boo hoo). Anyway, LBQ and your scribe carry out the down-down dispenser into the middle of the circle and fill one of those splendid shoes at the tap, which Olaf then quaffs, with the injured John joining him. We give them a blast of 'They ought to be publicly pissed On'. Then there's something very important: Spoilt Little Brat names Black End Popper and LBQ's cute little dog, Chairman.

We also give Julie a birthday drink and Ineke and friends advertise the cookery books they are selling with the proceeds going to help the Sudanese refugees. Talking of cookery, we were all getting hungry and it was time to tuck into a delicious buffet. It was by now quite dark and eerie pre-Ramadan shadows chased us as we tucked into wonderful salads and tasty grilled meat. On-On!!
