The Trail

We were in Upper Wadi Digla at the Information Centre for Hash 1485 at the earlier time of 4pm. The Hares were short of vehicles, so it was a case of the gallant Doctor Bassem to the rescue. Your scribe was one of the running Hares and like the runners we headed down the cliffs on the east side of the Info Centre, then had a cheque very quickly at the bottom. As the walkers went further east, prior to negotiating the southern cliffs, we turned westwards, dodging between those tough little bushes to the second Czech on the southern cliffs of Lower Wadi Digla, having passed the waterfall. We ran a little further then down onto the floor of the Lower Wadi. After a running tchecq with which the Hares managed to confuse everyone, we had the third chekk at a bend in the wadi with great views all round of the cliffs. We then trudged back down the wadi to the waterfall and up it, then back to the RV. The slow runners and walkers took 50 mins today.

Hugh J. Nuss kicks the Circle into gear, punishing a humungous batch of visitors who are given their down-downs in three phases. Anyway the names go something like this: Simon (an Egyptian jobseeker); Sherif (an Egyptian gentleman who's just graduated); Carlos (working in cement and from Italy); Ian (an Australian mechanical engineer); James (a Canadian-Irish teacher); Mike (from Chicago); and David (from Perth). The second phase: Suzie (a teacher from Durham); Joe-Elle (a French teacher from France); Carmel (from Albany in Australia); Sherif (again, for drinking out of his right hand); Noura from the Sudan (a lady of leisure); Monica (a hotel marketing manager); the succulent Sunny (California). The third phase: Monica again (right hand); the gorgeous Georgia (from New Pork and doing a Master's degree in human rights at the American University in Cairo); the delicious Deborah from Germany (who's husband's the head concho for Mercedes in the Land of Sand); Tuna from the Sudan; Christine (a teacher); Anne (from Johannesburg); Nada (from Egypt and very popular); Jill (from Liverpool); Alison (a student at the AUC); Fanny, a PE and chemistry teacher for down under; Sarah (a backpacker from Miami); and another Sarah, a Danish pastry.

And now we've got that little lot out of the way, the Hares receive sherbets, after which He Can't Make Her Come invites lots of little bairns present to have water d-ds, with Castrati leading us in 'My Bonnie'. She, Rudie and an English lass then indulge in refreshments for slashing on the Hash. We give them a blast of 'They ought to be publicly Pissed On'. Sue now gets two down-downs: one for laughing at the RA and another for drinking it out of her right hand. She's joined for the second one by the gallant injured John, running well today. He is also presented with a first aid kit. And now Melon F***er moves into action, inviting people whose birthdays fall at about this time to partake of beverages, namely Athletic Supporter, Three Dogs F***ing and Diane, before he moves on to two excellent award receivers, each for doing it 25 times with the Cairo Hash - He Can't Make Her Come and Brave Fart. Charlotte's also in trouble for not wearing a Hash Tea shirt and they're joined by a generous bundle of non-signers-inners: Black End Popper, Lou Borough Qunt, Should've Been Blonde, Useless (!), Dasmar, Martin, Edgar, Comes Quietly, Wizler and Sarah Wright.

And now for a momentous event: the naming of Rod, who collects wine and plays the guitar. His dad was an engineer; his grandads a carpenter and a bus driver. Hugh J. Nuss, Trevor, Stewbie and Useless christen him by popular acclaim, Do You Think I'm Sexy? Back over to The Dude, who asks one of the Sarahs to do some raffle extracting. She pulls Jordanian Bassem's wife, who opts for the tin of coconut juice and the humungous jar of honey; Gabby (a cool box full of beer which she generously shares with everyone); Rudie (another cool box full of beer which he generously shares with everyone); Ursula (the books); and Do You Think I'm Sexy?, who grabs four bottles of partly drunk hooch. Finally, we're informed that Hash 1486 will be in the sandbowl, before Jordanian Bassem, a former song master in the Jordan, rounds us off with 'Schwing Lowe'.

As for the On-On, some folk headed to the Rugby Club, while the Hares and a bundle of the young, studenty-type visitors on the Hash today headed to You Think I'm Sexy?'s drum in Road 206, near the Cairo American College. His gaff is located on the top floor of a very smart, small block of flats, renovated about three years ago and owned by Dina, a paternal niece of late President Anwar el-Sadat. And the beer did flow. On-On!!
