The Trail
The legendary Kerstin did her
first Hare today and she is also responsible for this week¡¯s excellent Hash
Trash. The Hash was held on 24/4/9. Did you know that both Shakespeare and
Cervantes died on 23/4/1616? Now there¡¯s a bit of Useless
information for you. We were in the Sand Bowl, left off the New Ain Sukna Road,
having turned off four miles after tollgates. It was cloudy, cool, windy, but no
rain. When the Hash started at 3 o'clock, the Hares Kerstin, Hugh J. Nuss
and Bogey the Wonder Boxer had just returned from setting the
run. Since they had gotten lost in the desert, they barely made it back in time
for the start, having been out there for three hours. The runners later cursed
them for setting such a long run (at least 10km). But thankfully for them it
was a rather cool day. The running Hares sent the pack out on their own, as
they needed a break and snack after all their exertions. Meanwhile, a few
Hashers had missed the change to summer time and therefore arrived a little
late... The walk was very nice and the walkers arrived back at the Sand Bowl
after about 1 h and 15 min. The runners started to arrive after 1hr 30 mins.
The Circular Circle
Hugh J. Nuss started the circle when
everybody had arrived. There were several new people to be introduced, but I
don't remember their names (a group from the White House Hash in the US, Washington
DC: Mr Magoo, Marilyn (Miss Direction), Jeff and others; Anne
from France, Layla and Ozzie (twins), and Joanne (their mother), Sam the world
traveller from the US). The group from the White House Hash was passing through
Cairo on their way to an Interhash in Kampala. They were called into the Circle
to sing one of their own Hash songs and did a great job of it. The RA (Stewart
[Cannot Convince Her To Come]) was not there, therefore Kim was
asked to do it in his place, calling several people into the circle for wearing
strange socks, not signing back in or not doing the proper movements for the Hash
song ¡®Swing Low¡¯. Kerstin was to be named today. She had already Hared at the
Hash Olympics two weeks ago, but didn't get a name then. Many great suggestions
were made for a name and in the end the vote was for Spankin Zee Frankin,
since she has the great honour to work together with Frank (Easy Ride
Herr) in the visa section of the German Embassy. This nice Hash day
ended with the On-On at the Shanghai Chinese Restaurant in Maadi Digla, behind
the Green Mill.
Trash 1518 ends on
a sad note, after the recent death of a very popular former CH3 member from
Canada, Peter Ford (Mousse Cock). Our thoughts are with his wife,
daughter and their wider families and friends at this difficult time. On-On!!
